Tom, did you just measure the bolt from out of the valve cover, the one that holds the intake down? 5" below the head sounds right for those, but I think the ones under the valve cover are the short ones (3-3/4" below head to end) I mentioned in my previous post. I have a couple head bolts here that I'm 90% sure came from a 196, under the valve cover, but I might be mistaken. I'm 99% sure there are two different lengths though. I was thinking the longer ones were at least 4-1/2"-4-3/4" but wasn't sure, 5" sounds about right for them (5" from bottom of head to end, would be roughly 5-1/2" overall from end to end -- the short ones would be about 4-1/4" total). 7/16"x14 tpi is standard US coarse threads -- easy to find! Wrench size really doesn't matter, and washers can be used instead of the oversize shoulders. (just here for Dave's info and your comment if you disagree). ------------- Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2008 21:39:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> On Mon, 31 Mar 2008, d stohler wrote: > so, does anyone know off top of their head the size > bolt for the 196 head? my casper is sitting 45 miles > the WRONG way, and i am going to town in the morning.
