I had completed stripping the block in the last couple of days and today I took the bare block and the crankshaft to the machine shop. On initial inspection, the machinist said he thought they could hone the block to remove the remaining corrosion from the cylinder bores. They'll call me when they know for sure. If they can hone it, they will go ahead and tank it and clean it up, resurface the deck and replace the core plugs and the cam bearings. The crankshaft will need to be turned another .010" due to poor machine work in the past. What I thought was scratches on the main journals and the bearings caused by dirt was actually, at least in part, poor machining in the past. Supposedly the car was painted and reupholstered in Mexico. The machine work may have been done south of the border too. I examined the oil pan more closely and compared it to the oil pan which came from a 62 Classic (cast iron OHV six). The 62 oil pan has an extra baffle in the front near the drain plug. Otherwise they appear to be identical. I'll measure to make sure and will probably use the 62 oil pan because it is in better condition than the 65 model pan.
