While visiting a work site today I was talking to the owner of the property about an old garage that was on the property. He said the guy across the street rented it from him and had an old car in it. Being curious I looked in the window and say the trademark AMC door handle and what looked like a Hornet front end. When time permitted I walked across the street and talked to Roger. He said the car was a 73 Gremlin and was minus the engine. He had bought a 71 Gremlin new and then had run across this a few years ago so he stuffed it in the garage. He owns and runs a repair shop and then he showed me the sign on the back wall. The place was originally a Hudson dealership that his grandfather owned. In the basement of the garage he had a 61 American that an old lady left there 25 years ago. She used to take the bus out of NYC to Pottersville in the Adirondacks and this guys grandfather stored the car for her. The bus stop was across the street and she would get the car and then drive to her camp. He said she sold the camp and stopped paying storage on the car and it still sits there. Roger then informed me that the building down the street (the only street in the Hamlet of Pottersville) was the Rambler dealership. Come to find out, the guy I was talking to about the project site has the original Rambler dealer sign in his barn. I go back across the street and ask the owner about it and he says it is still in his barn and he has no use for it. Trying not to drool I ask him if wants to part with it and he said he had "half promised" it to the son of the original Rambler dealer. Turns out that was six years ago. I think I might be getting a 3ft by 12ft lit Rambler sign!!! Roger then comes across the street and asks me if I want an old Waggy. Thinking it might have the 327 in it I inquire about the engine and it turns out to be the OHC Tornado six banger. If anyone wants the engine, let me know cause the Town is after him to clean things up and the Waggy is to be crushed. I think it paid to go to work today. I have visions of that Rambler sign inside my toy garage.
