[AMC-List] A/C question

The A/C cold box (1970 and up, or down) is connected
to the dash control by an aluminum tube. This appears
to be non-removable, is it? I'm not talking about the
slider cables.
I have several of these units that I would like to
stash and that tube is damn flimsy. The
Hornets/Gremmies are all this way, and I found my AMX
the same. Does this tube just act as an air chimney
and when did AMC start and stop using it?......Russ
