These will go on my 65 American with the original 6 banger, so they can be on the smaller side. (not even sure if more than one size was used.) I am not sure of any different backsets either? I will consider any usable set, altho a set painted up the proper way would be nice. I do not need the center caps but do need a set of the retainers. I can get the chrome rings anywhere. I can be reached anytime at 757 651 4513 <mailto:glkirkbuilders@xxxxxxx> glkirkbuilders@xxxxxxx Gary in Virginia 23322 SNIP The early Magnum 500s as used on the AMX and Javelin cars from 1968 through 1974 were 6?wide wheels. The Magnum 500 wheels use on the ?79 and ?80 AMX were 5 ? inch wide wheels so there are two different widths out there along with a couple of variations in paint and trim. I have seen people sold the later wheels in lieu of the earlier ones by some sellers with questionable ethics. Magnum 500 wheels were also used on Ford and Chrysler cars in some cases almost identical in trim to the AMC applications and they can be purchased as reproductions from Eastwood I believe. As far as trim rings go, good luck. Yup, you can buy trim rings anywhere but the right trim rings that actually fit on the wheels and look as they did when the wheels were first used is a whole different ball game. This might be a good time to start junk yard looking. I have seen nice looking Magnum 500s on Mavericks. It, too, is usually the only AMC there. The interior is all original, except the headliner, so it does show a little wear, but not bad. My current project is a Typhoon, for which I need a 232 and a trannie, if anyone can help me track them down. I bought a "donor" car, but am reluctant to take parts away from it. It could, possibly, be the last Typhoon built, and it's more solid than the one I'm working on, now (Typhoon I). Typhoon I was well on its way to a race track, or a crusher, before it was saved by the fellow I bought it from, and me. Any help on the engine/trannie greatly appreciated. To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <7659-448AB6B1-3494@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII I agree with Frank about showing survivor cars. A member on Bart's Gremlin group was hesitant on attending a local car show with his survivor Gremlin and after us prodding him he went and had the only Gremlin and AMC there. He said it was informal judging but his car drew a lot of attention and in the end it won best Mopar. Needless to say he was pleased as he had been driving and showing this original survivor that I believe his mother bought new for 10 years now. I picked up a trophy 2 1/2 years ago at the local AMC show with my orange Hornet when I first bought it. It had dull paint, a cooked interior, sagging springs and needed a heap of mechanical work. My other Hornet a long time work in progress also took a trophy a few years ago at the local cruise night. Like Frank said most ordinary Joe's appreciate an original survivor or a work in progress. Usually I have the only AMC at the local cruise nights. When I first bought the orange car I took it unwashed to a cruise night that I went to with the yellow Hornet. The organizers saw it coming without seeing who was driving it and later told me that when they saw the car they new it was me. It was parked between a mint 69 Chevelle SS396 and a beautiful blown bb Chevy powered 39 Chevy coupe. The owner of the Chevelle was annoyed that the Hornet got more attention than his car. They haven't seen the car in over 2 years. Weather permitting I may go monday. Wait till they see it now? If you got them show them and let the Ford, Chevy and Mopar guys know AMC may be gone but their cars are still popular with the dare to be different guys like us. The Orange car also won a trophy at the AMC show last sunday and those people had not seen the car for 2 years. The promoter of the show was the guy that helped me get this car and save it. If I didn't buy it some local towing company owner was going to buy it and cut it up and make a race car out of it and it probably would end up in the crusher as an unfinished project. It will be held at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino in Boulder City (25 minutes from Las Vegas and 4 miles from Hoover Dam). The hotel is really nice and they are giving us a gret deal. Show participants are getting 25% off room rates for any room but you have to book no later than September 1st for the special rate. They're also letting us use other faciliites for free. We are hoping for a good turnout of beautiful AMC's. On Sunday, the 29th we are taking a tour of a 150 car privately owned auto collection. In the cooler running yellow car I have a 7 blade Flexi-lite fan and no shroud. Same engines, carbs adjusted properly, and timing set the same. Maybe you are right and the A/C condenser is blocked with dirt and cutting down the amount of air flow. I will have to blow it out. I should be easy as the grill is still not back in yet. The car also has a new water pump, 180 degree thermostat, the cooling system was chemically flushed after I got got the car and replaced the bad heater core and installed a boiled out 78 Concord A/C radiator and a coolant recovery tank. The previous owner had removed the thermostat as he said it would run hot when the A/C was on. But he was a so called mechanic and as I worked on the car I saw all the jury rigging he did. What a butcher. I will see about adding a small auxiliary electrical fan and an auxiliary tranny oil cooled by passing the one in the bottom of the radiator and adding a 2 quart larger tranny oil pan to help cool things off a little more." Will the seven blade Flexi-Lite fan fit the factory shroud? That might be your best bet for cooling. I'll bet the factory clutch is going bad and that's causing the higher temps. It's common for those clutch fans to start slipping with age, and you are talking about a 30+ year old car. I'd bet it's been slipping for the last 10+ years. A new clutch would do the trick if you want to keep it stock, but I'd go with the Flexi-Lite plastic fan if it fits the factory shroud. The auxiliary tranny cooler will help. I run a largish one alone (no radiator tank cooler) with my AW-4 with no problems. Just remember that they are sized to work with the in radiator cooler, they are usually mounted in the return line after the radiator. If you're just using the cooler get the next size up from the recommended size for your car. Or just buy one for a V-8 truck w/tow package. The extra couple quarts will help also, but I wouldn't go that far. The cooler will add about a quart of fluid and should be plenty extra cooling capacity, especially if the fan clutch is slipping as I suspect. That's if the car has a fan clutch... ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list End of AMC-List Digest, Vol 5, Issue 22 *************************************** __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Will the seven blade Flexi-Lite fan fit the factory shroud? ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list End of AMC-List Digest, Vol 5, Issue 22 *************************************** ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list End of AMC-List Digest, Vol 5, Issue 23 *************************************** ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list End of AMC-List Digest, Vol 5, Issue 25 ***************************************
