Is there a match from J.C. Whitney to fit 73 AMX rear window louvers?

Thanks

A couple AOL members have resubbed to the list and NOT been bounced over the last 24 hours. I have a theory... AOL may have blocked the list server temporarily so that all AOL members would bounce and be unsubscribed. We were getting a couple bounces that were blocked in such a way that the list server could not extract an address to unsubscribe, so continued trying to send to the addressee -- whoever that was. The block forced bouncing and unsubbing of all AOL addresses, period.

The list server does not appear to be blocked any longer, so AOL members should be able to resubscribe if they wish. That's the only way to find out if the block was lifted. I may be wrong and it's just coincidence the two have managed to not be knocked off, though I can't explain why unless the block that forcibly bounced over 200 users has been lifted.

I'd like to thank all AOL users who sent a complaint about the list be blocked -- that may be why it was lifted. The blocking (to force unsubscribing) and lifting may have been their plan all along, but I'm thinking complaints more likely drove both actions.

I don't mind the question directly, you're just lucky I can answer! In a couple weeks I'll have access to the list but not my books -- will be in Afghanistan for four months. I won't have my reference books there! Hope you don't mind that I sent the answer to the list also.

Note that all early 60s (prior to 67) AMCs should be wired as the 65 (I checked 64 American). The 75 wiring will be the same for those cars with the seatbelt interlock system -- roughly 74-77. There are a couple changes without the interlock, but it's close.

1965 Wiring:
Blue - to flasher
Yellow - left front signal
Brown - right front signal
Green - brake light switch
White - right rear signal
Orange - left rear signal

1975 Wiring:
The connector has each position marked with a letter. I'm giving the letters as well as color. Positions A,B, & C are not used (no wires?), and are on the left.

D - orange - trans selector light (for auto trans)
E - black w/tracer - left front door switch
F - yellow w/tracer - key/belt buzzer, continues to seat belt interlock module
G - gray - horn relay
H - dark green w/tracer - to dash; and dark green - left front signal
(there is no I to avoid confusion with the number one)
J - brown - to dash; and brown w/tracer - right front signal
K - light blue - to hazard flasher (other side of flasher should be to power, on the Hornet it goes from power to the flasher then to the brake light switch -- it's between the brake light switch and power to the switch.
L - dark blue - directional flasher
M - orange w/tracer - left rear signal
N - white - right rear signal
(there is no O to avoid confusion with the number zero)
P - light green - to brake light switch

Doc, it's not just a myth, it's true! I have one on my 68 Javelin SST. After looking for the correct trim and only finding junk for $100 or NOS for $400 I gave up. One of the guys in our club, Southern Nevada AMC, gave me the trim as a gift. It is about 1/4" short on either end, and doesn't have the exact profile of the original piece, however, the only way you would not know it is not "correct" is if you got about 6 inches away and knew what to look for. I'm very happy with the way it looks on my car. From your posts it's obvious you have a keen eye for details, so it may not pass your muster. I'm good with it though!

Has anyone converted a carburetor engine to run on E85? I have been reading posts on other sites that talk about rejetting and using additives to prevent lubrication issues. How hard would it be to get it to work in my 70 Ambo?

Flashers were not a 1966 requirement. My former 66 Rebel was made in March
of 1966 and did not have them.

What number champion plug do you use in this motor, the tech manual says
RN12yc-the champion website calls for the RN14yc,
SNIP
Champion made an error when they re-configured their spark plug stocking
when calling out AMC spark plugs. They have been informed but could
probably stand it again as they have made no effort to change the stock
listing.
RN12YC plugs are the correct plugs for almost all AMC engine
application.
The Champion stock number is 404 RN12YC

SNIP
I put the 14's in my amx, now its not running as good.
SNIP
14's are hotter than recommended and can cause problems specifically
detonation, which may explain your lack of success .
For a variety of reasons I run Champion RN9YC plugs (Champion Stock
Number 415) in my AMC cars with excellent success. They are a colder
plug and apparently suit my driving conditions better. A modified engine
driven hard or even a stock engine driven hard can benefit from colder
plugs.

Hey Andy 100$ for junk and 400$ for NOS is insane on both ends of the
spectrum. If it works for you Javelin guy's it's fine with me, I was
just curious. I am a 74 Hornet guy, and have 2 of them. Bought one new
in 74 and still drive it and the other one 2 1/2 years ago. I probably
would have to look really close to see if it is not the factory one.
Like I said I was just curious. Yes iI have an extra and am not parting
with it. :-)~~

A: I have found that in real life things change. Fuels change, compression
ratios change, altitudes affect attitudes as well. Running colder plugs
seems to keep the ping beast away (without running an EGR valve either!)
Engines that are rebuilt often have higher than OEM compression ratio. Wear
and tear on timing gear and chain affect the VE (volumetric efficiency) and
modern oils can actually pump up compression a bit. Reading plugs has become
an almost lost art. (I admit to throwing colder plugs in when I hear the
slightest ping) Even a higher output coil (with a slightly wider plug gap)
can affect the point of engine ping. (hot/cold stat or partially clogged rad
too. Heck even Global warming can affect AMC engines! The O2 level has even
dropped significantly in the past couple decades)

A: Tell them it is an '87 Ford F250 with 6.9L diesel and intermittent
wipers. Controller is the same also. There is a pin in the non-int wiper
switch to keep it from being plugged into the harness for the int box. If
you go non-intermittent, you can unplug the box (which just plugs into the
int switch at one end and the harness on the other) and plug the regular
switch in with no modifications.

Sure is nice to see the old list guys back checking in again...

Jim Blair, John Elle, Ralph Winslow, too, I think... and others that I'm likely forgetting to mention. Even caught a line or two from Tom Benvie, cleaning his attic. Kind off looks like old times again. And Eddie was absent for a while but he's back and going strong.

Ken Ames, Andrew Hay, Tom Jennings, Mark Price, Frank Swygert, Matt Haas, Joe Fulton and many others that don't come to my more porous mind right now have been typing their poor fingers to the bone for the list.

Maybe sometime our good old AOL problems will subside and a few more subscribers can rejoin us. Looks like things will be smoothing out here. Seems like the list was in a popularity slump for awhile. Maybe because of so many failures that never seemed to get corrected. Things feel better now with this mail list server, for me, anyway.

I wonder if there are any AMC's in Afghanistan for Frank while he's visiting there. He might have to settle for a Hummer... (somehow that sounds dirty, huh?)

I hate it when I wake up in the middle of the night.
