Re: [gremlintime] Long Time owner

Hi, according to my 1975 shop manual:
Vin #AOS460A263072 =
A = American Motors Corporation
0 = year (1970)
S = 3 spd column shift (E = 3spd floor) A = Auto on column (Auto on floor)
4 = Body type: Gremlin
6 = 2 door sedan - coupe
0 = Model/Group (zero is not in my book)
A = 258 OHV six 1v
263072 = Plant of mfr and serial # (100,001 thru 699, 999: Kenosha built) (700,001 thru 999,999: Brampton Built)

We are still trying to get a 75 with 258/6 auto to run good enough to smog then license. We put back a reman'd Electronic ign dist, wires, plugs, rebuilt a later holley 1v that was on it (I think it's for a fairmont) and coil. Still haven't been able to get it to run at the correct timing. Runs rough and gutless at about 10 after, but not at all at correct timing (3 btdc). Alot of variables in a california model. Could it be the timing chain?. It shows about 120k (who knows if that is right. Also has an exhaust leak (I know the manifold is cracked.
Still testing for Microsoft certification, so no time to work on now. Good gremlining to everyone else,
Ken

Hello everyone,

This is a great site for Gremlin owners. I bought my first one in
june or July of 1970. I have been the sole owner for 31 years. I also
had two others in addition. One was a Gremlin X with a 258 and the
other was just a plain Gremlin with a 232. Both were either 71's or
72's.

The 70 I still own has a VIN # AOS460A263072. If anyone can help
me "decode" the number I would appreciate it. It is a two passenger
with a bench seat. The rear window is solid and doesn't open like a
hatchback. It came with a 199, vacuum fuel pump and vacuum wipers. I
put 75,000 miles on it before I pulled it off the road. I stripped
the other two Gremlins for spare parts for my "70".

I get "razzed" for owning it but tell people I'm not an "off the
shelf" guy and feel lucky I still own it. Sure I'd like to have
a "seven series" BMW but I would still have the BMW and the Gremlin.
The car has waved" buhbye" to many other cars I've had.

Have a nice one.
BMP
