First of all,the X package came out before there was a V8 available on the Gremlin. Second, AMC sold only about 40,000 V8 Gremlins in comparison to the total Gremlin sales of about 800,000.Just because a person wants a sporty car doesn't automatically mean they want a gas guzzling V8 under the hood.Lastly, by the time the late 70s rolled around, the 304 had the same horsepower as the 2 barrel six,so it didn't even make sense to offer the V8 anymore. Lastly after lastly, I have always had six cylinders in my AMC and I have never felt that the car did not have enough power. Peace Paul >> Paul, even if the 304 Grems had 12 hp,slap on a set of headers and some good exhaust and you have one bad ass soundin ride. NOTHIN sounds as good as a well tuned V8.my 73 Grem started life as a turd 232 powered Grem now she rocks with a beefed 343,granted the amc 6 is a good motor, but its so far been a pain in the ass to swap a V8 in my grem due to it bein sans a V8 crossmember.i wouldn't even get a second look if i owned a primered beat up 6 banger grem but shes primered slightly beat up but built up as well and people drop their jaws wehnthey see and hear my grem the look of the 2 goin together is what amazes most LOL like i said ealrier, theirs stock grem fans and theirs bad ass V8 grem fans nuff siad regs Bart 73 Gremlin dedorked 343 p[owerred
