Re: [gremlintime] Digest Number 462

Hi Gang! Well, I finally got down to Petersburg
Indiana to pick my new May 1970 Gremlin! It was 700
miles each way with my wife and 16 month old baby boy
to boot! If that's not a feat of Gremlin love, It must
be close. Anyways, I drove it home and it never missed
a beat. It WAS interesting though! That three on the
tree shifter with the non-synchro first gear is a pig.
Yeccch! The brakes were worn and out of adjustment and
the steering had huge slop in it as well as being
stiff as hell. I must admit though, the old
bulletproof Six purred like a kitten.

Well, it's home and safe and must be wondering what's
next. At first, the car is going to think that it is
doomed. The absolutely perfect interior is coming out
as well as all the glass. Next, the engine and tranny
come out. All the chrome and exterior lights etc are
next. The bare shell will then be towed to the body
shop where they have instructions to make it Purple
and perfect! This should not be hard because the body
is very, very good and straight.

When done, the '72 gold "X" stripes go on, a new set
of carpets, bucket seats, the back end will be raised
tastefully to accomodate BFG T/A 60's on the back, and
70's on the front, all with Crager wheels. Next, the
front springs get replaced, disc brakes installed, and
a Borg Warner T-10 four speed from a 1969 AMX with
georgous Hurst shifter. Last, but not least, The
engine which I don't have , YET! :-( It WILL, WILL,
WILL be AMC, I pledge with hand on heart. I'm still
looking for a 360 or maybe even a 401. I would prefer
one that is rebuilt and maybe a "little bit" done up
but not some sputtering/farting racing thing that is
big $$$. I don't want to race, just intimidate Fords,
Mopars, and Bowties that dare mock the Chariot of the
Gods! I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Babble, babble, On another note, I just bought some
amazing Gremlin decals on ebay. They are about 12"
high Gremlin Man stickers which are perfect for the
back window. I ordered 3 in gold, purple, and white
cause I couldn't make up my mind what will look best.
They are amazing quality and are JUST the Man, no
background. He can make them for inside window or
outside applications. I think inside is best for the
back window. Mine came to $11 each but that was
through bidding so the price could vary. The fellows
name is Michael and he was an absolute pleasure to
deal with. His email is <scsprinting@xxxx>. This
will look Sooo Coool!

One last question for all the guru's out there. I've
got the AMX driveshaft and I know it will have to be
shortened but will a Jav rear end bolt right in to a
Gremlin? Is this a good idea? I'll quit now cause my
two typing fingers grow fatigued! Thanx for reading, I
love my Gremlins and in one small way, I'M 18 AGAIN!!
:-) Your all great ...Ken
