I need to clear up some errant information here...
The 360 Chrysler (used from 1971-today) & the 360 AMC share NOTHING. Jeep
J-10's & Wagoneers used the AMC 360 until 1992, while Dodge trucks use the
Mopar 318/360. AMC truck & car 360's are the same, though accessories &
exhaust may differ. CJ's also used the 304 until 1980. The 1970's engines
are good, but those in Jeeps may be cracked--loook for evidence of
overheating. 2 weird places to find 401's are 1974-up International
Travelalls (where it's called a 400) & AM General mail trucks. 1974-78
Cherokees, Wagoneers, & J-series pickups also were available with 401's.
The 1970-up heads are WAY better than the older ones.
The AMC 401 is NOT a "punched out" Chevy 400--it's a stroked 390. It's
plenty strong--I'm running 10.85 on a 1975 401 (from a Matador) in my 1974
Gremlin X.
Mine has factory discs, but I THINK an 80's Concord or Spirit should work
for a disc swap. The booster & master cylinder should also swap.
Yes, you will need stiffer springs.

Ken, the 360 that Chrysler made is the same one they use now in the Jeeps
and such, as long as it isnt the truck block it will fit in your Gremmie,
the front shocks and springs will need to be a heavier type bacause of the
weight difference between the 6 and 8 cylinder engines. if you want a good
360 look in an older Jeep cherokee about 1974-79, it had the ford intake and
chrysler exhaust on it and is still a powerful engine, the 401 is basically
a Chevy 400 punched out to a 401 and because of this is a weaker block. the
T-10 will fit the standard rear end as long as the splines in the tailshaft
and driveline match, if you buy a T-10 from a wrecking yard, grab the
driveline
if possible, you will need it. as far as the front brake conversion, Bendix
makes a conversion kit that you can get from a hot rod shop, its a bit
pricey but if its what you wanna do then thats how I would do it, short from
robbing a Monarch of its spindles and things (sorry Bart :-) ). aside from
that have fun on your car and will talk to you later.
