Re: [gremlintime] The ole what is it and why question. Someones gonna die.

Before I hit this site , I was considering popping a 350 Chevy into my "70"
Gremlin. It's likely because I like Chevies and I like Gremlins. Iv'e always
heard that you can get the most horse power per dollar with a chevy 350. Lets
face it, unless you have money coming out the wazoo and a wife that doesn't
care what you do with the famlies "extra" money, cost is a big consideration.
Right now I have a comepletely rebuild from the bottom up "199 CID" which
throws a little over 128 hp. I've had two other Gremlins with 258 CID which
were cranking out a little over 160 horses. I think the 258 is a balanced
engine in relation to out of the box horse power and what you can do to it.I
have to admit that having a 350 under the hood would be sweet.

I agree with you about the flack for having a chevy powered Gremlin. I get
beat up bad enough for even owning one let alone getting grief from my fellow
Gremlin owners. If you want a 350 Chevy, pop it in . If you want to go pure,
more power to you. I was raised with the crowd of people who had the attitude
that "if you can stuff it in there, cool!" Right now I'm pointing in the
direction of the 258 soley on the basis of little retrofit costs and the fact
that it will be a straight up AMC that kicks butt. The dream of the 350 may
never go away but I feel comfortable following my own heart.

BMP
Owned three- Still have the original single owner (me ) since June of 1970.
