That doesn't surprise me that a lot of Gremlins have the "wrong" gas cap on them. In the 70's it wasn't odd at all to see a Gremlin running around with a rag sticking out of its gas tank where its gas cap had been stolen.

Then someone changed your cap before you got your car. First three years of Gremlins had heavy, cast metal gas caps.

The Gremlin gas cap is from a later model. The correct cap for 1971 would be about an inch wider, much heavier, and a casting instead of a stamping.

Nice car... did anyone see the one 'wrong' part on this perfect example? Gary (Themix)

This is like the one that I bought brand new in 1970. I've been looking for this color combo ever since and never seen one for sale. This is probably way too nice for me, since I like a car that I can actually take out and drive, but I may go to the auction anyway.http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/amc/gremlin/1497526.html?refer=newshttp://www.happycarz.com/?showroom=1971-amc-gremlin-3 Onree in Nebraska
