Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Springs.........

Warren, If you saw my Gremlin at the Livonia show, it would be hard to tell just how I got the extra hieght on the rear of the car without crawling under it (unless you were one of the judges). I did not replace the springs (they are still original and working fine), what I did use were traction bars set up for a '70 AMX and Monroe air shocks for a '70 Javelin. If you don't want traction bars under your car, then find a set of lower spring retaining plates from the '68-'70 AMX/Javelin (as they have a lower stud mount for the shock as opposed to the Hornet/Gremlin style with the ear for the lower shock). Also, the factory shock for the AMX/Javelin is about an inch longer than the Hornet/Gremlin shock (which means you don't have to put 60 psi in the shocks to get a little lift). I only had 30psi in those shocks and the ride was still firm but comfortable. Hope this is helpful. Gary 'TheMix' in Cleveland

Subject: [BaadAssGremlins] Springs.........

Greetings to all BAG members who showed up at the AMO meet here in Livonia!
Excellent turnout, although a bit heavy in the AMX division.. Had hoped to have my Hornet there but the *#!~@**%ing body/frame shop in Rochester Hills STILL has it (over a month past the expected completion date...)
ANYWAY, I am looking to raise the rear end a couple of inches and have been informed that the "best" way to do so is to either find some stiffer rear coil springs or to have a "leaf spring shop" "add an additional leaf" to my leaf springs. Well, since I have not seen any "leaf spring shops" does anyone have any suggestions for a source for stiffer coil springs that would/should fit a 77 Hornet rear end? Thought about coil-overs until I priced them, Yikes!!!
