As far as activities - you could see a Detroit Tigers baseball game, head downtown Detroit to visit the Casinos, cross over into Windsor, Canada for nightlife there, take the Ford Rouge factory tour, cannot miss the Dream Cruise (it is just awesome!!), go to Bakers in Milford for Sunday classic car day, walk the Detroit River riverfront or visit Belle Isle just to name a small number of activities some car related and others not. If we can stay in touch I'll work more on things you might definitely have an interest in doing.
BTW our daughter spent a year in Australia (Brisbane) last year about this time. She loved it.   Hope to hear back from you sometime.
