As for Medallion and Summit, no, rarely saw one, but this can be said for a
lot of AMC vehicles thru the decades, as most were built in low production. My
72 Ambassador SST wagon I drive daily was one of only 5525 ever made, so not a
lot of them, and don't remember seeing them even when new! Same with Concord, at
least some models Concord, while wagons sold well, as did 4 doors, rarely did
you see a 2 door sedan, and consider yourself lucky if you ever saw a 78 Concord
AMX new with 2540 made, my estimate is less than 200 exist. At the pick a parts
here in Houston in the 1990s there was a lot of them and was really surprised as
had never seen so many together and seems they mostly cratered at, or near,
100,000 miles looking at the odometers as I commonly did at junked cars when
there WAS junked AMCs in salvage.

I remember the Medallion and Summit but I never knew anyone that
bought one. As for as the Eagle I agree it was a good car and I really
would like a good one for an everyday driver when I retire in a few
years. Still though even in 87 when the last one was made all you
basically had was a 1970 Hornet Sportabout with 4 wheel drive.

And recently Suburu had 4 of the highest ratings in some survey
go figure. Not that I want to go out and buy a Suburu now. But the
Eagle held it's own against Suburu back in 1980s in the 4x4 contests.
It's all monday morning quaterbacking since 1988. That Medallion and
Summit AMC was pushing never got off the ground, they were good
looking cars, very modern...however. ....every time one would see the
word AMC mentioned (dating back to the big strike in 76/77) AMC had
the word 'struggling' in front of it. Needless to say you get
stigmatized no matter how much shit you win and awards and how well
cars built people just remember that 'struggling' word and keep
looking.

No by the time Chrysler took over AMC there wasn't much
left but Jeep and a car that was identical to all the Japanese
cars that were on the market. I don't even think Renault
killed AMC, Lets face at the turn of the decade you needed to
change what you were building. AMC couldn't sale the 1970
Hornet forever.

A Dirty word, that R word. Kind of like the F word for
Chrysler today... What goes around comes around. Isn't it
great?
