Do you have the original harness? Is so, what's wrong with it? If there is a short, they can be found, and repaired. This can be done with the harness on the bench,, it is easier this way. If the tape, looks bad, you can re-warp then, but be sure to use a factory type tape, I think the last time I did one, I got the tape from Eastwood. It is a time consuming project, you need to remove the old tape, clean all the old glue from the wires, (rubbing alcohol works good for this) and re-warp them. This is not something you'll do on a Saturday afternoon. If your wires have show any signs of corrosion, do NOT use them, This lowers the amount of current that they can carry. A corroded wire can very easily start a fire.
Good Luck

No., the Javelin harness will not work. You might try seeing if some of these folks have a used harness. I do not know what a used harness, with most plugs will set one back for Gremlin. I can tell you there are reproduction harnesses for 68-69 and 70 and 71-74 AMX & Jvelin in the $500 range, down from the $1100 years ago.
Painless wiring harnesses suck I would rather burn my car than use one, but if I use one it would probably catch on electrical fire anyways.
There is no reproduction wiring harnesses for Gremlin or Hornet made that I know of.
A good used wiring harness for 68-70 AMX or 71-74 AMX ot Javelin are in the $250-$350 range, but would think that Gremlin/Hornet ones less, I had a 74 Sportabout harness I sold in mint shape on ebay months ago for $100 for example. Note that most harnesses are sold without the rear taillight harness, just main harness, the tail light harness usually $25-$50 extra.
You might try
Mike Lakin in NV I think he is on this list, but go to www.craigslist. com and look for 'amc' under Reno, NV and you will quickly see all his parting out ads.
Also on my VENDORS list:
try
Richard Estermeyer who is parting out 15-20 Gremlins/Hornets
Circle City AMC, ex-Houstonian Vic Owens (tell him Eddi e& Paige say hi and miss his grilled hot dogs at AMC meets
hopefully on of these folks will help you out.
Lastly in shameless plug which you knew was coming like seeing Billy Mays sell shit from beyond his grave shamwow, here is a mess of ebay stuff shoved on there ending MONDAY NIGHT
might see some stuff you just have to have, thanks for looking, good luck and tell those folks above I sent you if contacting them.
