I think most of the little go cart bodies are rather rare, don't even know
where to start and then their might be goofy Fiat, sorry, Mopar, wanting
"licensing fees" to do darned Gremlin, after all, they don't have money so
always looking for handouts, bailouts, ect. Not sure what market would be, but
people collect odd shit you know, like ladies undergarments tossed at Tom Jones
thru the decades or those grille cheeses, cheetoes and potatos (potatoes if Dan
Quayle is reading) shaped like religious figures, sports stars and celebrities,
and watched a tater shaped lile Illinois sell for several hundred dollars. Why?
I was stunned to see Motor Max do Gremlins and Pacers in radio controlled
cars in several sizes 5 or so years ago. The big ones originally were $49.95 at
Wallyworld and other places, and sold well I guess.
The NOS in box Rupp powered AMC Gremlin in the photos off my site sold for
$1500. A AMC vendor on my site, Randy Hensinger had a beautiful one for sale for
$1300 and in one of the various AMC newsletters editors send me from around the
country (thanks!) there was another, running, driving one for $1000 for instance
a few months ago, so some still out there.
But like Frans Custom Fiberglass shutting down, there are the molds
already. So my guess is that other fiberglass places have contacted them to buy
the molds, which would save them development money if they don't stock that
product already and can add to their product line. So maybe if one place did the
little Gremlins and retrofitted it to newer, cheap go carts, they could sell
mold or trade fiberglass molds with other places. Just a thought. Deep Folgers
thought. :~P

Don't know Eddie. Before this thread started I thought go-karts
with car bodies on them were rare. The only ones I had every seen were
the local Shriner's and they have Corvette bodies. I did a search on
them and there are all kinds of companies that make them. You can get
Mustangs, Corvettes, Jeeps, Vans all kinds of cars. It might be worth it
to one of these companies if they could get the molds cheap to try
producing them maybe on an order bases.

This is true to a extent, there are folks who may/may not want or
own a Gremlin however, there are a mess of folks out there who love go
carts and would jump on something like that. Sort of like the people
you see who buy marbles they don't play with, cars they don't, old
books they don't read, and paintings and don't paint I guess. I have a
record of selling cars on ebay about as good as Detroit Lions, of the
15 cars have put on there thru years, something like 4-11 which might
be better than the Lions record last 2 years.
This little 77 red/red Gremlin here, ran, drop, stopped, and put
in on ebay with no reserve and it sold for a whopping $310.
Still, I think if someone did a "limited run" the serious people
who aren't stanind in soviet bread lines waiting for bailout and do
have some money would possibly pick one up, maybe a run of say, 50-100
cars max would bring out collectors, and many of them would not
necessarily be AMC fans!

Gremlin Go Cart
How right you are, Terry. Unless it is really nice
(or a V-8) it is hard to get $2000 for a real full size Gremlin
Most Gremlin enthusiasts (probably AMC fans in general) either don't
have a lot of money, or because of what Eddie calls the
"Rambler Mentality" aren't willing to buy anything unless it's an
outright steal. I sold a rust free 1977 Gremlin, a true California
car, last spring on ebay and it only brought $1247. Last time I'll
do a no reserve auction.

While it would be nice to see someone produce them I
just wonder if there would be a market for them. Those
Shriner cars cost around 2 grand. For that kind of money or
not much more you can buy the real thing.

Good idea to mass produce them, not sure
how one would repro the chassis however. Those were
offered thru AMC dealerships starting in 1974, and then
they also offered a Pacer. They sold more of the Gremlin
than Pacer ones, but both equally rare to come across
Sometimes at the bigger AMC meets you will see one or two
scooting around with big ad! ult head sticking out of it
like Shriner cars, but just neat part of AMC
memorabilia.

Now there is a perfect project for fibreglass
- Use that body to make a mold, and then you could
mass produce them!!!!!

[BaadAssGremlins] Gremlin Go Cart
While I was at fall Carlisle I saw this Gremlin
go cart in the flea market. They wanted 1200 bucks for
it. It has some cracks around the roof. I posted a pic
of it
