Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Fw: rear wheel hub questions

I built a 69 Javelin for my oldest a few years back.  The Dodge 360 spun those hubs so quick.  Even before I got a chance to drive it.  I was told then that new brake hubs dont have splines and you create those when you torque the hub nut down.  I don't know about that but, I changed out the diff with a dodge/spicer 10bolt design I think.  It was in a Dart 70's vintage and was proper width.  It held up to my daughter drag racing it at that strip and shutting down the guys at work that called her car ugly.  Yes it was a rust bucket and way ugly.  Wish I had it back now.  I am sure a posi would of let that engine wind and the car to drop a second in the quarter.   She was running mid 15's at 4300 ft elevation.  She just put it in gear and let the trans shift when it liked.   If you can find a Dart 8 3/4 (those are the narrowest units)  buy new axles with  4 1/2 lug spacing then you can run your stock wheels.  You will not bust that unit unless you are running 500 inches and mega boost off the line.  Even then I dont think you can put enough tire under your car to bust it.  Good luck

Eddie,

I was wondering if I could get some information. In rebuilding my 74 Javelin AMX rear axle I noticed that the internal splines in the hubs don't look to be in the best of conditon. The axle splines look good and the woodruff keys are ok. The hubs though almost look as if the spline is spun off. There doesn't appear to be any previous damage to the woodruff key. I bought the car used a couple of years ago so I don't know it's history. Is the internal spline normally not as deep as the axle spline? If it is as bad as I suspect do you have something new I could buy to replace them with?

Thanks,
Mike Volsch
