Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: Big Engines running slow.

I was at detroit autorama a few years back talking to a guy with an old pink rambler station wagon. At least that's the way I remember it , a guy with a bad ass 3 window hot rod thart you could hardly see around ithe motor Comes up and says , Hey you're the guy that blew by me on I75 about 95mph.all I saw was taillights . LOL.  And yes sir , when I was a kid I lived on a semi busy residential street with a park on one side. We painted a line accross the street for start and also marked a 1/4 mile finish. Guys would show up a 3 in the morning when were all sleeping and drag race .  Neighbors were not real fond of us. When they set up a speed trap we would go down the road and post a sign . Back then speed traps were where they put rubber hoses aaccross the street hooked to a car and they would toss the hose out the window and go after the offender. I think they still do that with trafic counters. I had a 67 Triumph TT drag bike, also , and the neighbors would squirt me with their hoses when I went by.  Oh the good old days. Now days it's a fellony to have any fun . Paul

Terry in my case I am probably turning about 3500 rpms at 55 cause I like a lot of gear under anything I drive. I am going to be running a 4:11 as my trip gear in my Javelin. I once drove from western Va. to Atco NJ.in my 1969 AMX -raced it for two days and drove it back with 4:44s and 70 series tires. It was my everyday driver for several years always with the 4:44s. The Gremlin I drive for my nephew has 5:87s and my 67 Camaro had 4:88s. No interstates in my area but lots of mountains! That is what works for me. Rick

Terry,, it gets down to enjoying the ride... Yes, a lot of time and money are put into our cars and when going to a show or coming home, I like to take it slow and easy and enjoy the time in the car, let everyone else pass me and just take it easy. And it's also about keeping the cars in top shape by not riding em hard all the time. Bob in MN.

As you know I had less than great breaks and very old tires on my Gremlin so in the last 4 or 5 years I never got the Gremlin over 60. Every thing in the world would pass me up on the one stretch of Interstate that has a 65 speed limit but every one drives 70 & 75, Well I always wondered when I left car shows why I never say any of them on the interstate. Well yesterday  I think I found out. I left a show and I was running a little over 70 and I passed up a couple of them. I would guess they were running about 60. I went a little further down the road and I passed up three more. My question is if you got this big ass engine in your car and your on a road that you can drive  75 or 80 why are you driving 55 to 60.  The only thing I can think of is these guys are afraid they might mess up their $50,000 show cars so the engines are more for looks than anything else. What are your
