Hmm....yes and no on both accounts, as it depends on a whole variety of
factors. A person's driving habits, such as commute, road conditions, weather,
and such. The tires on my white 82 Eagle here I coaxed 60,000 miles out of them,
they were cheapie Kumho (damn I hate saying that word, I just keep seeing Beavis
laughing when I say it, sure wish the Japanese would learn who Ron Jeremy is
before naming tires) but this white Eagle is a workhorse, and driven daily in a
wide array of conditions from extreme heat with ground temps over 150 degrees to
hurricanes to flooding. While still good tread on them, I decided to replace them
when looking at them with some good sized weather cracks in side walls. The B.
F. Goodrich T/A radials I have on the Machine rims on the SC/360 are fixing to
get replaced, probably with same, but those have been on those rims....since
1989. Granted I have gotten about same 60,000 miles out of them on 4 different
AMCs including the Rebel, and two AMXs thru years. But they have been on the
SC/360 since 98 or so and it has only been driven about 100 to 150 miles since
then so not something I would make streetworthy due to hardly any tread! I got a
notice from Discount Tire about valve stems they had some recall and those were
blowing out so if you got a so and so valve stem from Discount Tire within a
certain time period they would replace it. I figured I would get some free valve
stems out of deal so it was caravan of AMCs up there off I-10 to get new valve
stems. I sweetened the deal however with a cold case of cheap Natural Light beer
for the crew however after they got off work could have a cold one, the manager
was fine with that. So for $10 of cheap beer, got 5 AMCs valve stems changed out
which is 20 stems for those with superior mathe skils!
I may add that if you ever get some of the repro Coker tires, a suggestion
is to pull them off and use them mostly for shows.
