All good advise, but best bet might be to simply remove the alt, take to
O'Reillys or Auto Zone as they all have in house testers there, they lock the
alt on the machine, and can give diagnostics right there on spot to determine
what type amps it is putting out. And of course if you need new one, probably
have them in stock and there is old no good core already so don't have to pay
$15-$65 core charge.

      | Start the car , disconnect the battery cable . If
the car dies the alternator is bad . Or better yet take to murrays part
store or someplace like that and they will test the system without
removeing the battery --- On Sat, 6/6/09, Bradley Jones

              | At night, park where you have a reflection of
your headlights on. Bring the R.P.M. up a bit and see if they
brighten when you do. If so, change the alternator.

                      | When I have my lights on and have my turn signals
on my headlights go up and down with the turn signals.
Last night was the first time I noticed it then I
thought this was the first time I have driven it at
night this year. The alternator light doesn't come on
and the battery is staying up. I think I probably should
be saving up for a new alternator. What do you guys
think? Funny thing is when I had the 30 year old belt on
it I never had a problem put a new belt on and it is
                        giving me one. Terry
