| Thanks to all whjo have replied so far on this topic. I did however delete
the jpgs here as some of the AMC places I am forwarding this to would not accept
them and bounce whole email. Anyone want to some Metropolitian photos can email
the Brian fellow below who asked original question. Anyhows, here is a reply he
asked me to forward, now back to our regularly scheduled program. ----- Original Message -----
Hi Eddie, I am the one who made the original request I hope
this gets to the right person(s). If not, would/could you forward? I know about the MGA/MGB ODs, but
those are out since I would have to change the original design of the car,
among others, to bucket seats and I am not interested in doing that. Also, the
tail shaft models appear to be very high so tunnel cutting would probably be
necessary. I want to, at least cosmetically, retain the car as much as
possible.  I have access to a very incredible machinist(my brother) who
will help with all he can. He is "very" savvy with cars(older)
and has experience with adaptations.   My preference is to approach the problem as
you suggested below. Using the "collar" link-up would/could definitely be doable
given my brother.  I even have heard of ODs attached just ahead of the
rearend. Have you heard of this install?  It would seem there could be a
definite vibration issue. (?) With all that has been said, I have a
complete history book on the Met and in the book they refer in 2
different places to cars with overdrives. One was when they were doing
factory endurance testing in the mid to late 50's. The second reference was an
owner of a later model. It seems as though in both cases they were they talking
about new cars. So, since it wasn't a factory or dealer option, I
would assume it was aftermarket. Also, on the test vehicle, I would
assume the same as they probably would not have modified to a floor shift
since this was not something they wanted the car to have from the get
go. I just finished restoring the car to "driver"
status, 1961 Convertible and have fallen in love with it, as sappy as that
sounds. But, boy does it need either a 4th gear or OD. I did change the rearend
to a 3:90 as I found the MG Midgets used the same rearends, but had 3:90 ratios;
the "pumpkin" slipped/bolted right in. This helped a little, but, not
nearly enough. I live 27 miles(one way) from town and I intend on using it
as my daily driver. So, that is where I am.  From what I have
researched, it seems as though BW made a number of OD models. I have found
references to  R-8s, R-9s, R-10s and R-11s, is this correct and if so, do
you know the differences?  Apparently there was one about the size of a
"loaf of bread" any thoughts(?). I have contacted BW, but, nothing
yet... Brian
