Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: mercury hidden headlamps

The guy who wanted to buy it never showed up. I went and got some more Panther Pink paint. It starting to look really nice. I replaced the carb and both manfolds. Now the timming seems to be off or it's sucking air. All the bolts are tight. Can't figure it out. It won't stay running unless I keep my foot on the gas. I hav'nt seen a Hornet in a long time but my intake manifold came off a Hornet I ordered from a scap yard in Ohio.

2 of them have the 305's and the other has a 307. Have a guy here in town with one of those boats. Keep the Gremmie, Lot's quicker and better gas mileage. My 258 Hornet Sportabout keeps the ricers at bay.

Sorry dude but I had bad luck with GM's i've owned 3. If your caprice has the usual 350 stock be prepared to see my tail lights.

Be careful about what you say about GMs. I've got 3 Caprices and all of them will give that 460BB a run for it's money and still get over 25 mpg.   I grew up with Furds. That's why I drive AMCs and Chevies!!

Yea, I herd that. Guess that means No Passing even if a slow moving GM is ahead of me. LOL

Thanks! for reply. this Mark III has a 460 Big Block. It belonged to my father-in-laws father-in-law and he got it when he passed (God rest his sole) he 80 something. It's never be smoked in and has pretty decent milage. I hate to give up the old Grem but this car i can turn the key and go and with a Big Block i'll probobly go right to the neaest gas station. My father-in-law also has a 29 Model A with a Rumble seat in mint condition.

AND ANOTHER REPLY............Keep the gremmie  But if you get a real deal on a 30 something black and pinstriped origional lookin hot rod with a big block , I might start questioning my commitment.  Till then hang in there.. LIFES SHORT, GREMLINS ARE COOL.....  PAUL IN D ETROIT

There was one of these in a Big Bad Blue looking color in a salvage yard here, had a 429(?) it it, rusted to the ground. There was also over 50 AMCs including 3 AMXs, 15+ Javelins, several Marlins, two Hornet AMXs, 3 2 door Rebels to name a few. All have since been crushed, you can thank City of Houston for flattening that 40+ acres of jewels in SE Houston near Airport road.

$500 for 340 that's a gift around here. If you can find one in this are a 340 will run $750 and up. My buddy wants me to get a 360. Not sure about that motor. Ford motors are easier to find than any AMC's. What kind of 400 was it Ford or GM? they made both. Crate motors are too high. Around here crates don't have the complete motor. I saw a sweet Cyclone on ebay it was a convertible. I like the hideaway headlights on them.
Maybe i'll jog down yonder Tennessee area. They have some nice yards down there.

You can still find 340's relatively cheaply. I have sold 4 complete 340 motors for $500.00 - $600.00 in the last 6 months. You can buy new 340 blocks with extra webbing for alot cheaper than you can buy a similar offering from Ford.I just put a stroked 400 (mopar) in a guy's 71 Gremlin.I had plenty of clearance. You are right, a 440 may have some issues with the brake master cylinder and you may not be able to run power steering. We had tried to find him a 401 and didnt come across anything so he took the next best thing.....There is a guy just down the road from me that put a Buick 455 in his Gremlin......looks great....I think I would rather have an AMC motor in mine though.....429 is a good little motor. I bought a couple of 70 Cyclones a couple of years ago. Both were 429's, 1 was a 4 spd. Wish I would have kept them They would fry the tires.........eddie walker

Maybe i'll try to snag a ford motor. Mopars are expensive especially the motor I'd like to get (340). Back in the day (1980's) my brothers friend put a 440 in his Gremlin. It fit, I bet it was tight. As far as ford goes i'd probobly snag a 429. They are'nt as wide as a 440. My dad had one in a 70 T-Bird. It had some balls to it.

A friend of mine has a 56 Ford short bed pick-up with a 350 chevy and i ask him why a GM motor and he told me parts are easier to find for a GM and they are cheaper too.
that's not really true as finding a used 350 nowadays is getting hard as many yards rip em out and sell em to South America.todays chevy crate motors are about the same price as a Ford one.
