Might be their pride you know that hurts the most.
I have heard all sorts of lame shit from 2nd, 3rd, place winners thru the years.
Judges were blind. People choice my ass, the people didn't know what they were
looking at. How could anyone think a (insert AMC here) was better than my
(insert brand x here)? That car is worth a fraction of what mine is. That car
that won has a crack on dash, mine don't. The list is absolutely endless.
Excuses. Whining. You name it.
One of the worse case scenarios was a big show up
in Dallas I was at in the 90s. A fellow whose Ford (can't remember model) had
never gotten a 2nd did at this meet to a Crown Victoria, the one with the glass
roof, possibly 56, maybe 57. When he went to pick up big trophy, he threw it on
the stage and started ranting about inferior judging, incompetence, and all
sorts of al queda excuses. The crowd and announcer was at first stunned. Then
people started yelling 'get off stage asshole' and other obscenities at him, the
mike was quickly shut off so no one could hear this asshole. The announcer
quickly gathered his sense of humor and moved on, and lightened up the crowd
again. But to the 400+ people there, myself included, have never forgot just how
much some people cherish a $3 trophy, whether at a car show, soccer game, kids
art class, you name it.
