1 more thing to look for, especially if
the system has been empty for a while, is the accumulator/dryer. If the system’s
been empty for a prolonged period, even because of a minor leak, moisture will
have contaminated the system. A good vacuum (20 minutes minimum) combined with the
new accumulator/dryer, some dye (so you can spot minor leaks with a black light)
and a refill and you should be good to go, provided the compressor is OK. Like
Ed said, check the bearing out 1st. Whatever you do, DO NOT PUT ANY KIND OF
SEALER in your A/C system. It’s the worst invention since Disco! Trust
me, I’ve taught many automotive A/C classes and I’ve seen the very
negative results these sealers can do. I don’t care what story of whose
buddy did what: A/C system sealers are junk, period. The turn to mud and
