Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: stock vs nonstock (was cheese javelin)

Eddie, I got 'caught' on that Lexus mirror thing too.  Back at Christmas time the boss' wife pulled into the back lot at our shop and she took a really tight space. Later in the day the car needed to be moved and I went to manually pull out the pass. side mirror (I thought it was broken) she just laughed at me, started up the car and out they went by themselves.  Gary

No more Jagermeister for John! On the Dumbo ear mirros, ha ha, still laughing at that, as when I go to a mall I am the person who barrels walking thru where dumbass SUV owners have parked too close together and those things have created a 'gate' of sorts, so just barrel into them and like the French Army, collapse. However i saw a lady parking the other day in some Lexus thing and the mirrors folded THEMSELVES as she parked and turned off key! I was perplexed and walked my white trash ass over and asked her if it does that ever time, she said yes. Good looking lady for being in 60s, but all plastic too. I asked if I could check out her mirrors which I did, she seemed to think i was homeless fixing to ask her for money but I pointed over to my Rebel convertible sitting alone away from other cars and she said ohh, that is nice! So she knew I was car guy.

John, you are a customizer at heart obviously, if you had time to sit your butt and play photoshop with car photo, you can do sheet metal too. Why not build a four door 71-74 Javelin?

Headlamp bezels. Many cars don't even have them anymore. I think these painted same color as car would have rocked.

Uncover and properly aim driving lights. Huh? C'mon John, it's nutria season, and those are hunting lights, good to help granny in Beverly Hillbilies whup this evening's slaw of critters. They help you see what you aiming at, and the spoiler scrapes it right up for easy access.
I won't get into talking cooking my tacos on the intake manifold again, ya'll know all abuot that.

On my 71 SC/360 rear spoiler, if you ever get to see this car up close, the spoiler sits flush with butt end. Maybe I will have to crawl up on top of house and take downward photo of it, but here is one off my website:

Take a look at photo 1683 here also. This spoiler also serves another functional purpose, and that is for momma to pile the never ending laundry out of dryer on, makes great shelf.

You need to concentrate on your new bride more and stay away from that photoshop thing. how is the new wifie and are ya'll fixing to breed? You need some little AMCers running around up there in New Jersey. No more overanalying green AMXs! Here are two tips: don't cook bacon naked; and kids and tachometer needles don't mix.

It is the old 'stock' vs 'non stock' thing again.

==========================

Eddie and others,

Not at all, Eduardo. It's 'tasteful custom' versus 'poorly-planned
changes that detract from the overall appearance of the car'. Your
hornet (for instance [duck!] looks fine in custom colors, and a l
ess Toyota spoiler would look fine... but that huge wing you've got,
to my eye, clashes with the car's lines severely.

Just to illustrate my view on the 'custom' green AMX, I did a quick
photo-shop job on it to tweak the changes so that they don't battle
the car's original lines, but instead flow from and with them. The
changes are subtle, and perhaps many won't see the difference...but
I'll list the changes I made, and you all can squint real hard at the
attached photos to see if my tweaks become more clear.

1- 'Dumbo-ear' Euro mirrors must go. 80's Camaro-type pillar mirrors
blend better.

2- headlamp bezels and tail panel should be black, NEVER white (even
if the whole damn Javelin is white...sorry).

3- Air dam opening looks blocked off instead of open. Hide this with
mesh similar to grille.

4- Uncover and properly aim the driving lights...it ain't a 4x4 and
the covers look tacky. If they must be there, paint 'em black.

5- Mid-80s Cadillacs have slim side marker/turn illumination lamps
that would be far nicer than cutting a big hole and slapping a driving
light in the fender! YUCK!!

6- Sides of air dam extended to flow level to ground, then follow the
tire's edge with the same clearance all the way around...not wider at
the bottom as it was.

7- Rear of the front flares also follows tire contour exactly.

8- Rear flares mimic the sides of the air dam...level bottom, then
follow tire edge.

9- Lowered the car another 3/4" or so.

10: Aluminum slot 'Hallibrand'-type wheels....totally 60's hippie
cool...
but on a car with so much 90's stuff added? NOPE. I stuffed 17s under
it.

Other choices he made (like the color, the white top and the doubled-up
hood cowl) were left alone, tho I'd change both of these, too, if the
car
were mine.
