Charles,   Youcan add frame connectors from inside the car. You will have
to remove the seats and carpet and do some welding. There should be a pic
in my folder of it. The CID is Cast into the side of the engine block
under the motor mount. In some cases there is nothing cast there. That
would be a service or warrenty engine. It then could be anything from a
360 to a 401. The only way to tell at that point is to measure the bore
and stroke.  As for rebuilding the engine, find yourself a good competent
machineshop. They can point you in the right direction.  Davis

how would i reinforce the frame? would i
have to pull the body off? or can i do it from under neath? and what
would i use? and how hard is it?

Charles, the size of the motor will be stamped on the side of the
block...if it says 360, its a 360, if it says 401 thats what
it is. It will be stamped some wheres around the motor mount.
As far as parts that you will need to rebuild a
motor...If ya got the cash and are willing to spend it...just take it
to a reputable machine shop, one you know wont screw ya and tell
them to re-build it. Depending on what YOU want, you can spend "big
bucks" or just re-ring it and throw in some new bearings, cam, timing
chain and gears, have the heads gone through and new gaskets...the
best thing to do is find one still in a car or truck and see if
it will run. That way YOU know that it was in decent shape
before you pull it out and drop it in your Gremmie. You
stated that there is one already out, I would beware of that motor, if
its been out in the weather it maybe frozen up by now. As far as a 360
or 401 that is up to YOU!! You are going to have to
re-enforce the frame anyway so it really is a decision that YOU have
to make.I used to work with a guy at the plating shop and he stuffed a
350 into a Vega with out doing any frame mods.....the very first
time he got on it....POPPED THE REAR WINDOW RIGHT OUT AND TWEAKED THE
FRAME....Now that was a site to see!! Needless to say...it went to the
big "squisher" in the sky!! If it was me......go all the way with a
401 what the heck.....ya only live once!!!! Bill Id.
