Dan, try this...Check your front end. Ball joints, tie rod ends, ect. ect. Is the belt tight? Fluid level ok, and is it good? Does it look good and does it smell burnt? Check hoses and connections for leaks. You may try an aftermarket steering stabilizer. Not sure even if someone still makes them or not. Used to have one on my Gremlin. Tire size maybe a factor also. The wider the tire, the more road feel you will have. You may also have a fast ratio steering box. Most modern day cars have rack and pinion steering and dont have a steering box at all and are way more responsive than a car with an old school steering box. Does your car have a front sway bar? That will also increase road feel. Less body sway. If you check some of these things and everything is on the up and up....probably it is just the way the car is. The car is almost 30 years old. Subject: [BaadAssGremlins] 77 hornet p/s question
Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2006 14:14:14 -0000
The power steering on my hornet is very light, especially compared to
most modern day cars. I know that's how p/s systems were designed
back in the 70's, but I'm wondering if there is some modifcation that
I could make that would give me more road feel. I would like to stay
with p/s, so converting to manual steering is not an option.
Thanks,
Dan
