RE: [BaadAssGremlins] A Little Tweaking

EEGADS!! I have worked since I was the age of 12. My parents told me if I want it, I have to earn it. I bought my very first rifle the end of that year. I was 13. This is the very first time I have drawn unemployment in my entire life. I get a whole 120 bucks a week. Could you live off of that? I have to do odd jobs and stuff like scrappin' and salvagin' to get car parts. LOL! I have a line on a job today. Local work. Easy stuff. I am done with over the road long haul stuff for awhile anyway. Got a serious case of burn out from it. My very first year of driving big truck I made over 34,000....at .25 a mile. Welcome to Idaho the right to work state!! YUCK!! I can go right across the river to Washington State and make atleast .34 a mile. Why dont I? Tired of living in a truck and being away from family and friends for weeks or months at a time. The next time you get behind that big truck and hes going slow up that hill, remember if ya got it, a trucker brought it to ya!! LOL! Just about everything in this country is shipped by truck. Has anyone gone across I-80 in Wyoming or Nebraska before??? What a lovely site! TRUCKS, TRUCKS, AND MORE TRUCKS!! LOL!! I LOVE BIG TRUCKS JUST AS MUCH AS I DO AMC's  Bill Id.

Thanks Doc, Greatly appreciate that!! It will be awhile before I attempt it. I need a real job first. This unemployment thing is not cutting the stuff. Thanks again for all your input. Bill Id.

On the Alt. I went big buck and bought a one wire like Hal said, but a
brand new 100 amp one from Kennedy American. There is also somthing you
have to do with the wiring to make the idiot light work. I didn't bother
as I have an Auto Meter volt meter in the factory gauge pod under the
dash. If you have power steering and it is a 74 you are in for some
bracket modifications and other work to make it fit. Clearance with a
car with power steering and the alt. is very very close. Check the AMX
Files a few days back as I gave a detailed description on how mine as
done. I didn't physically do it myself due to poor health but supervised
and had machining done at another friends shop  and worked with my
friend who did the final installation at his shop. I also got the part
no# from a guy on the AMX files for a 1/4" shorter belt that helped. If
you need the no# let me know. It was a real pain of a job but it was
well worth what I had to spend to get rid of that old Motorola crap that
was in the car.

Doc, when you do a conversion like your talking about here, with the alt., do you have to have a delco voltage regulator also? What kind of donor car will work and what years? Thanks Bill Id.

I think I finally got the manual choke to work properly but you never
know with this car. For the 2 1/2 years I have had this car everything
is an up hill battle whether it is a big or small job. The true test
will be when I go out to start it this morning. Since I replaced that
horrible 35 amp Motorola Alt. with a 100 amp Delco I still have a minor
clearance problem between the alt. and the steering box that needs to be
addressed. What a pain the so called bolt in was with all the
modifications that were needed to make it fit. I now need to grind a
little off the edge of the top cover of the steering box and a bit off
alt. housing itself. All I really need is 3/16-1/4 inch of clearance. My
friends shop is slow so I want to get all these little annoying things
done. For anyone still using a Motorola alt. in their AMC it was well
worth the work to convert it to a Delco. With every elect. accessory on
the Delco charges a steady 14.5 volts with the Motorola it dropped from
14.5 to 11-12. I plan on adding an electric auxiliary cooling fan also
for extreme hot weather conditions when the A/C is on. I plan on putting
a lot of miles on this car this summer. Last year from Feb to Dec it was
in my friends shop getting the interior done. It's also out of the 3
cars I have the only one with working A/C. What a pleasant surprise it
was to find the system has held the charge for almost 2 years without
being used. :-)
