Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Cheap !@#$%^ Parts and a Pleasant Surprise

Bradley, I have been through there quite a few times. I am not sure of what part of Southern MN. your talking about, but ya, all the time to get to WI. Hauled alot of cheese from Southern Idaho to Wisconsin. St.Paul-Minni all the time. Also took the Southern route all the time also. Come across I-90 (from Wisconsin) and jump off on to I-35 and run South into Iowa. Always stopped at the T/A Truck Stop in Albert Lea. I dont do it right now, I am kind of unemployed and drawing unemployment. I got kind of "burned out". The company I was working for kind of like "USED ME" I used to have to drive 375 miles one way to get to work, (Northern Idaho to Southern) then, load up the truck with all my crap, including the dog, then drive into and stop just on the Eastern Border or Wyoming. All in all it was about a 1000 mile trip and made for a very long day. It got to the point where the company wanted me to do it all the time!! I couldnt get out of the truck on time to make appointments, wether it be for me or my daily driver. What kinda sucks about the job is I got to see all this really cool stuff that I wanted to stop and see, but the load had to get there at a certian time and of course when your "Truckin', Ya aint got the time". LIke all the time I got to go thru St. Louis Mo. I always wanted to stop and check out the arch, but its kind of hard finding a place to park a 75 foot 40 ton truck. Always wanted to stop and see the "spam" museum!! LOL! Hey crazy trucker!! Bill Id.

Yeah, those truck drivers a wee bit crazy. We had a trucker follow us 2 exits past his just to get a look at my friend's '76 Sportabout. He even knew which year it was without asking. A TRUE AMCer at heart!!
All the upgrades and modifications I did on my yellow Hornet over the
30+ years I did to my orange one and then some when I bought it. The
yellow car still has that crap 35 amp  Motorola alt and the orange one
has a 100 amp Delco. I installed a manual choke kit like the yellow car.
Them Carter carbs automatic chokes stink. The manual one I put in the
yellow car has worked  for 30 years. The new one I installed in the
orange car 1 1/2 years ago is sticking and mind you the car sat for 11
months of that time in my friends shop. The hole in the backealite choke
cover is so big that the choke shaft wobbles back and forth. Is there no
quality any more? The choke kit cost 12$ and I had to have a bushing
made to fix it that took my friend at his machine shop an hour to make
and cost me 25$. He drilled out the hole in the backalite cover to fit
the bushing and I an going to glue it in with JB Weld today. On a good
note it was so warm yesterday I decided to try the A/C in the orange
car. It didn't work when I bought it. This spring will be 2 years my
friend added a sealer dye and charged it up for me for free. I haven't
used it since and it works. I still have the gas gauge and courtesy
light to get working. The wooden jig is made to hold the grill for its
repair and re-finishing. The wife is still giving me hell about car
parts in the house. I can't go anywhere with the orange car without it
getting some kind of attention. A truck driver chased me across the
supermarket parking lot on foot just to look at the car. He said he
hasn't seen one of them in years. :-)
