Sorry Davis, but the 1970 definitely DID have the Gremlin guy on the front fender, right behind the running light on the side of the grille. You did give me enough of a doubt that I checked my wedding pictures from May of 1970--and there is my 1970 (purchased April 4, 1970) Gremlin all decorated up with toilet paper and shaving cream--with Gremlin characters on the fenders. They also show up in the 1970 brochures, which show a white with red stripe Gremlin just like mine. 1971s were virtually identical to the 1970s, although they did add the Gremlin X model, and dropped the 199 CID engine sometime in 1971.

My 1970 was first registered as a "Rambler Gremlin" 'cause when I registered it the County Motor Vehicle office didn't have any info on the Gremlin yet.

One small correction. The gremlin guys came on the front fenders in 1971 only.

This thing is a mish-mash of put together parts. The padded headlight and wiper switches are from a later AMC. Radio knobs look correct. Bright material surrounding speedometer and glovebox lid look like some kind of contact paper. The ones on Gremlin X were not that shiny. Gremlin did not offer bucket seats (or Levi style) in 1970, only a bench seat. Deluxe interiors were pleated high-backs, with bench bottom. Wheels and covers are later 14"--1970 Gremies were 13". Transmission selector is correct Shift-Command. 1972 and later were Torque-Command. Gremlin character on front fender and script on sail panel is correct, as is the brighter silver grille surround. License plate expired Nov-1997. Might mean an open title signed off a long time ago--not recently titled or licensed. Stripes look kind of sloppy. I wonder how cheap and dirty the paint job is. None of the pics show door jambs or under hood.

That car is from Holliwood where it's all smoke and mirrors.  Paul

I agree Paul this is one of those cars I wish it was close so I could take a
look at it in person. It does look good but the glove box does bug me. Would
love to check out how much bondo is in it and see what it looks like
underneath. Don't think I would give him the 5 that he wants but I would go
quite a bit on it if it is as good as the pictures. I did put a bid on it but
it was less than his reserve and I don't think I want to go much higher site
unseen. That yellow 70 sure would look good sitting next to my red 78. The
beginning and the end. Oh well I am just half ass looking for another Gremlin
or another AMC. If I find something I like and the price is right I will buy
it. If I never find another one I am glad I got the one I have. I was looking
at my dash plagues and just realized this will be my 10th season that I have
been taking my Gremmie to car shows. Hard to believe. Never seen another
Gremlin and I can name the other 4 or 5 AMC's that might show up. I don't know
what I would do if a real nice Gremlin would start showing up. Hope I don't
have to find out. I like being one of a kind too much.
