I finaly got around to checking out the 73 Hornet Sportabout. It is advertised as a 1 owner 53,000 mile car but the poor thing must have spent its entire life outside. Top of fenders were rusted through. Might could have saved drivers side but would have to have a passenger side fender to make it look right. Lot of rust around the rear wheel wells and of course the bottom of doors and rocker panels were all rusted. The normal AMC rust. Interior was way less than perfect. It has make offer. I got the number but unless I change my mine I think I will pass on it. If it had a V8 in it or even if the interior was in good shape I would have thought more about it. Now if it had been a 73 Gremlin in that kind of shape I would have seen what kind of deal I could have worked out. I would have gotten my 5 gallon bucket of Bondo out put it in black primer and had my older style work in progress to go along with my 78. Oh well maybe next time. Terry Yahoo! It is the 'White Lightning'ultra-rarity that is slipped in every so often. If you 'must' have it,expect to pay $50+ for it now, and no less than $30 for it after the first sixmonths....when it pops up on eBay.The red-interior versions are only hard to get now because JL isn't shippinghuge quantities so that every store gets them. But eventually, they will getthere. Impatience will cost $5-$10 each plus shipping on eBay, or you kickback and eventually they'll be in the store and $3-4.My local Wal-Mart finally got some, as this morning I grabbed one of eachred interior version (the only two there- had there been more, I'd have grabbeda second pair for myself, then any additionals I'd have offered to any groupmembers that want them (because I didn't learn my lesson after grabbingtwo extra T-shirts that everyone wanted 'til I found them, and then thosefolks vanished). Like the T-shirts, if nobody actually wants them when I *do*find more, but just wants to whine, then the extras I do grab will end up oneBay so I'm not stuck with them, and the whiners will have more to whineabout.Otherwise, just kick back. They'll get to your store sooner or later.Looking at the ones I just grabbed, I am very impresed with the detail andaccuracy of proportions this time around. It's an even beter casting than theHornet hatchback. Oh, how I wish they'd go back and let the sculptor of theGremlin redo the humpster Javelin offering. Done by the same guy, it'd befar more accurate and beautiful.I also grabbed a Vega hatchback, Maverick Grabber and a Buick GrandNational. I love the obscure models being added to the line, especiallywith such striking detail and accuracy. Great stuff.
