Bart, one of the things I mentioned earlier is that the JL's do not appear
in all parts of the country, much less north America, and especially overseas.
They originate in China, are shipped thru Seattle, but then onto JL distribution
in IL and onto their destinations like Wally World, Hobby Lobby, Ames, K-Mart
and other places. But when you have a "limited run" of a toy, they are simply
not enough to go around to all the stores.
Each case of JL's has only THREE Gremlins in it also I may add, it is not
like some of the cases I have which are all one model like Javelin. So while
these might be all over stores in say, North Carolina, Georgia might never see
any at all.
That is why you see people putting them on fee-bait, evilbay, feebay,
e-bait for instance. I did the same with several cases I had. They were not in
stores and I simply elected to 'strike first' (ok, it is greed!) and put them
out there for those who either wanted a first, or wanted to get one in case they
never showed up in their region, of which again, not all of them will.
Houston is the 4th largest city in the US. I can count a number of JL's
that never appeared on the shelves here including most Bond Hornets (and from
Corgi also) as I check many toy stores, and other places one commonly finds them
for sale. Nothing. So I had to buy off a AMCer, a hobby or toy store place, or
evilbay. But at least I got one, even though in some cases, paid 2X-5X what I
would have paid if the darned thing would have ever been on any of the dozens of
stores that commonly sell Playing Mantis stuff in the Houston Metro.
Just like the real 68-70 AMX, limited production and well, limited space.
This is a original ad from AMC, note the tongue in cheek slogan in 1968:
