I haven't been following this thread, however, thought I would toss in my 
annoying 3 1/2 cents adjusted for inflation since the 70s. If the tiny hose 
goes horizontally on the firewall along the top, chances are this hose 
carries water for the washer nozzles. Usually ID'ed with several little T's, 
and one will eventually, on the driver side, run to the washer plastic box, 
or bag, which would have a small electric motor. Do you have a photo of the 
hose? I can take a firewall photo of my 72 Ambassador, or 74 Hornet 
Sportabout and post it here if you think it might help?
