Without mentioning names (like Summit) sometimes
you call these suppliers who handle all sorts of mixed make material and items,
and say AMC and it's like someone dropped the phone. Say 350 Chevy or Honda and
you have multiple salesmen fighting over the phone to help, but say AMC and
suddenly you feel like Katrina refugee stuck in Atchafalay. Not all places like
this, but some are, hell, you can sometimes even get that same face...or
reaction (catatonic) at a local parts store asking for AMC parts, and watch the
parts guy suddenly drop mouth and burrito juice (or skoal) drool out, blank
stare like deer in headlights, or Paris Hilton blurting out 'that's hot' again,
same look. Mainly because a lot of the parts stores folks don't (or can't read)
look in the big parts books at the edge of couner with spider webs all over them
from non usage. If it ain't in computer, they have better things to do and
easier to simply say N/A. That's why a good parts counter fellow is worth their
weight in gold, will go the extra distance for you, even for a nut and bolt, and
look it up, or know something that will interchange from sight. Like Federales
when you travel in Mexico, you have to BRIBE them from time to time. I have
discovered dollar store Twix bars in the evening, and kolaches in the morning
work best.

Subject: Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Torker
intake questions
Huh Summit told me they were no longer available. Some times they
suck.
Torkers
seldomly sell above $150. The intake I had is a R4B: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5644513443 with
lots of extras. If a aftermarket intake has AMC part numbers on it, that
adds a estimated $50-$125 to the value of it. Few have those
however.
The Torker shown in the auction mentioned is a non-EGR one,
and those are more desirable than EGR ones. However you can still buy
both. Note in the auction the "buyer" has zero feedbacks, so who knows,
might have been shilled, might have been rookie not knowing you can walk
down to the 7-11 and buy a Big Gulp, a bean burrito and Torker easily.
Might want to watch that closed auction, to see if it is relisted, if
so, chances are was shilled up.
As for Torkers, here is
Edelbrock's AMC
page: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/man_amc.html
What I am
waiting to see however is a comparison between the Air Gap and
R4B.
