[BaadAssGremlins] Re: Custom

Talking about 'Custom's Gremlins. There were a number of regional Gremlins made too for specific regionals. Some were modified and are well known like the Randall Gremlins, a Randall Pacer is shown here:

others not so well known like the Frazzell AMC Gremlin "mini wagons" sold in Galveston/Houston. Nothing special about them except seemed to have a few extra options, and well, metal emblems like this one shown here. I have never been able to have anyone tell me why they were sold in this area as a 'mini wagon' either although a number of people remember them and a few have owned them; have owned 2 of them myself.

On the 78 Gremlins, I believe Jerry has one or two of them, quite rare cars, and if I recall, shared the 78 Concord AMX flair package also.

They do share most of the things with the 74(?) I believe you mention, however as John also pointed out, some one year items like dash gauges. But glass, bumpers, doors, stainless, seats, door panels, drivetrain, a majority of it is same.

Speaking of drivetrains, some of those Gremlins had a four banger 121 and I believe 151cid in them. I recently bought a 81 Eagle and was surprised to pop the hood and discover a tiny little 4 banger in there. There is enough room in there I am thinking about becoming a coyote and smuggling people across the border. It has a 151 in it and is a factory 4spd. While changing the oil I had to actually look up how much oil it would hold as I was ready to drop in the usual 5 quarts in there, but this childs portion engine only holds three quarts!

The gas mileage on it is impressive, I have been getting 20-23 mpg in it, driven daily. So if some of ya'll happen upon the four banger later model AMCs, pick them up. I have always thought they should end up in a row of cars at the monster truck pull with Gravedigger flying on top of them, but now am impressed. Sure, not the same as having a V8, but for hauling the kids around, it beast the 72 Ambassador which goes from Citgo to Citgo.

Good luck with that Gremlin, maybe you can customize some of the later stuff onto your earlier car such as some of the VAM built Gremlins looked like stock:

The tail panel is the main difference. You'll have totally
different tail lights, hatch window and related bits and
pieces.

The front clip is also the Spirit-type redesign, but if you
were swapping the entire setup (valance/grille/hood/fenders),
it's a bolt-on swap.

The dash of the 78 is the later (78-88) type....like Spirits,
Eagles, Concords. Nothing much the same to a '74.

Wheels, doors, windshield, suspension and mechanical parts should
all be usable with minor variation here and there.

Seats will certainly swap, tho the upholstery paterns and colors
will be different.

In the end, $1000 may be a lot for the limited swapables you'll
gain. Buy if 'correctness' is less important than 'completeness',
then it may be worthwhile.
