Subject: [BaadAssGremlins] Orange Car Finally Driven Yesterday!!!!!!

Finally almost 8 months to the day when I brought the car to my friends
shop for the interior though not completely finished I took it for a
drive yesterday. It needed a state inspection so I got that done. I went
past my local R&S Strauss chain store to look for a cheap set of floor
mats for the time being. Yes I do go to chain stores once in a great
while. I found to my surprise a really nice set of mats for 21.60$.
Black carpet with a bound edge and a rubber heal pad for the drivers
side. To my surprise the 4 mats fit like they were made for a Hornet.
Also since I parked the car in the shop last Feb. I didn't remember how
much gas was in the tank and I lost my 3/8"X3' marked wooden dowel I
used to stick the tank with. After assembling the dash and all the
electric's last week and hooking up the gauges in the pod I noticed when
I turned on the ignition switch the gas gauge moved slightly off of dead
empty every time. In the past some times it would not move at all and
other times it would move but did not read accurately. This time every
time I turned on the ignition switch the gauge moved to the same
position. I put 20$ worth of gas in it and now the gauge seems to work.
I got me another dowel and will check it today. It sure would be nice if
the problem was just a dirty connection on the back of the inst. panel
printed circuit board where the harness plugs in. The only gas gauge
problem I had with my other Hornet in 32 years was a bad sender. I am
hoping it fixed itself but with all the problems I have had I give it a
50/50 chance it did. I also have a new sender and tank in this car
already. Today I will take it for a nice drive again and have it washed
and vacuumed out and return my friends TSM and pick up one of those
plastic center console cup holder things. Unfortunately then it goes
back into my friends shop for a few weeks for some more minor work and
tweaking. At least I have my old Malibu all set for winter now. Along
with the brakes being fixed and a new starter, I had all the rad. &
heater hoses replaced and some fresh anti freeze added. One hose had
developed a bubble, they were 5 years old anyway. See Dan even though
this is my winter beater and I hate spending any money on it I had all
the hoses replaced instead of just the one that appeared to be bad. Fix
it once fix it right and be done with it.
