Re: [BaadAssGremlins] hey i got a paint question

There is nothing wrong with single stage acrylic enamel. When used with
a hardener it can be color sanded and polished like the old acrylic
lacquer not like plain enamel that takes forever to dry completely.
Personally I don't see the advantage of this new base cote clear cote
paint myself.

I bought a gallon of single stage acrylic enamel for my black car and with the reducer and hardener it came to just under 200.00 bucks. That is from Carquest autobody supply. And that was with my "senior" discount.( the guy at the counter is a senior and he gives me the discount cause he know's I am short on funds
I checked on base/clear systems and the best price was still over 400 bucks. a good clear runs over 200.

Where do all the local auto body shops get all their supplies?
O'Reilly's? or any chain store I don't think so. Do as I always do to
find somthing check the yellow pages. That's where I found a media
blaster to blast my aluminum 77 Hornet AMX rear window louver. They all
say for professional use only but as long as your money is green they
will sell to you. A quart of acrylic enamel (single stage old style
paint) with a discount cost me 30$ 1 1/2 years ago for my orange Hornet.
Paint an thinner is very expensive for the good stuff. I must be getting
old or have done all of this to long professionally. If some of my
answers seem short and abrupt I apologize. I am 59 and have been doing
this since was 16 years old in 1962.
