Hey John that is the car and the 15,000$ was the price tag at the time,
it was at the Ardsley show 2-3 years ago. He asked if I knew where he
could get a rear bumper and support. I told him I had both but he would
have to sell me the car to get them.
He has been hawking this car for almost 3 years now and in my opinion a
nice car, but way far from original and not worth no where's 15,000$
that he said he has invested in it. You never get the money invested in
a car back, not even on 100,000$ + street rods and Hemi Cuda's. Through
a friend I heard he was looking to move out of his "Double Wide" in
upstate N.Y. and needed money for a house. I was told he said 6,000$ was
his bottom line. Figuring he was in need of money I offered him 3,500$
CASH and he said no, that was my bottom line. Case closed. I budgeted
10,000$ of my tax free money last year for both of my Hornet's and spent
almost the whole 10,000$ on my orange one. I really didn't need another
car and it was just a whim on my part. If he said yes I would have it
now and use it as a driver. All My AMC's are drivers to some extent.
John I could easily write you a check for the amount you want for your
Hornet "X" out of my personal checking account right now, but it would
only become one of my 3 drivers. Original matching year tires and all
that are not my thing. My yellow 74 was modified after the first week
after I bought it new.

A white '75 and too much money? Sounds almost like the guy
I met at the AMCRC meet this summer.

He has a very nice-looking '74 X with a factory 304. He
claimed to be the original owner and seemed quite sincere
when he reported the car was 'completely original' despite
it wearing several items not offered by AMC, either at all
or not until several years later. 'Incorrect' pieces
included the dual exhaust and chrome exhaust tips, the air
cleaner, the valve covers, the intake, the carb, the wheels
(the wheels he admitted were add-ons), the all-blacked-out
grille and the wheel flare pieces from a 1977 AMX mounted
over the stainless '74 rocker trim which he insisted was
factory-installed, despite the fact that AMC didn't
manufacture such pieces 'til much later...and he didn't
have the matching front air dam. His $15,000 asking price
probably meant the car went unsold, as that seemed very
high in my book.

On my way home yesterday from my friends shop I stopped to borrow a TSM
from my friend. While waiting for a traffic light a guy behind me starts
honking his horn and yelling at me. I was trying to figure out what I
did when he gets out of his SUV and walks up to my door telling me he
has a white 75 Hornet "X" Hatchback home in his garage. We couldn't talk
as the light turned green. I wonder if that was the car I passed on 1
1/2 years ago because the owner wanted to much money for it. Anyhow I
thought I knew all the local AMC guys in the area and there are not many
of us.
