Re: [BaadAssGremlins] eagle law

Terry, something you might do is what I did here in Houston. There is a Houston Police Museum up off Aldine Westfield on east side, and in there, they have lots of photos, some not hung, or archived.
Houston used to use Gremlins in 1970-72 as cop cars for downtown detail work. That included parking tickets, jaywalking, red light runners, and just whatever stuff people would break the law in downtown Houston. No high speed anything, they would leave any of that (rare back then; common now) to the police helicopters and Matadors, Furys and cars capable of such. But if you have a police museum or something similiar, check it out.

There was also a number of Army Ambassadors, and Navy cars, just a few years ago on a trip to Corpuc Christi, about 2003, I saw a white Matador wagon in a car lot for sale, so went back to check it out. Solid, well taken car of car for $900, 1978 Matador coffin nosed type, white with blue interior, had only minor rust on the tail gate. Was showing under 60,000 miles and appeared to be original. But what captured my eye was the decals on the side, long faded but still readable. Texas MHMR which is Mental Health/Mental Retardation unit. So it was a fleet car! 360/AT too and loaded. This car was used to carry around the folks at that home, probably the home for them off Saratoga road. My guess it was retired after 23 years of duty, however, sometimes people donate cars that are a few years old, to places like this. So don't know.

I put the lead on the amxfiles for people, don't know if anyone bought it. There was also a dark, olive green Ambassador four door for sale here for $200 at a car lot, back row as usual, off I-45 a couple of years ago. Department of Defense still on it, had a special plaque on the dash as a government vehicle. A original 258-6, AT car too, only options I saw were AC and tint, no power steering, no power brakes, tilt, nothing else. I shold have bought it, as for some reason I fugured no one else would and I was right. 2 months later it was at pick a part.

I got it Eddie. I have tried to get a picture of Gremlin police cars that were used here but seems no one has one or at least the cops won't look for one for me. In 77 or 78 the city of Louisville bought a bunch of Gremlins to replace their three wheel scooters for the traffic maids and for traffic control. They had all the Police emblems on them and had red and blue lights on top. They used them to write parking tickets, investigate accidents and direct traffic during special events. They were real police cars manned by real cops. Not used for many high speed chases. They replaced them with Caviler Wagons. They bought the Gremlins because the city had a bunch of Hornets that they had used for a lot of city department cars. I had an uncle who worked in the city garage and he drove one of the Hornets back and forth to work for years. I remember when they got rid of all the Amc's ! he bought me the last 6 or 7 oil filters they had and a couple of set of spark plugs. Maybe when the winter turns cold I will go to the library and see if I can't find an old black and white picture of one in the old newspapers. I know the cops have to have some pictures of them but the people I talk to act like I am some kid of nut. A few of them remember them but that is about it.
