Always sad no matter what kind of vehicle, as most
times, someone has sentimental vaule or memories attached to that vehicle. I
have towed off a few, and often thought about the AMC workers on the assembly
line who proudly put in the dash, or wiring system, or who drove it to the
marshalling yard, or the salesman who sold it new. And as you see it hauled off,
you know that many of those people have long since passed away, but their legacy
lives on thru that car, destined for the crusher, and well, probably end up in
China's Three Gorges Dam.
If any of you have any AMC dealership photos you
would like to share, feel free to email them to me in jpeg form, as I grew up
around aMC dealerships and firmly believe it is a story sort of left untold and
mostly forgotten by the public, AMC or not, so would like to keep the
memory alive of those dealerships in the US automotive history books so it would
never be forgotten like so much else. This is a file off my site dedicated to
dealerships:

Let me guess....Timing belt shrunk 1 size too small, sparkplug wires too
long, waterpump about a quart too low????

My better half Focus started running like crap so she has been driving my
rice-eater. The rice-eater got where it won't idle. I looked at both of
them. There ain't no carb to adjust no distrubutor just a bunch of crap and
a stupid check enjine light. We took the Focus to the shop and the guy
called and said it needed a buch of junk some of what I never heard of
anyway he said for $550 they could get it running for $780 it would be fixed
right. I muttered to myself I used to buy whole cars for that amount. Anyway
we went to pick the thing up and while we there about 5 others came in. It
seems like the $780 was cheap. I figure they took in about $7000 in that 20
minutes. I told them they could throw in a jar of vasaline. They
didn't seem very amused by that statement. Now I got to find someone to fix
my Celica. I told Debbie what we should do is get of this new old junk and
find us some decent AMC's to drive. I told her I could work on them and I
didn't need a million dollar computer to find out what was wrong with them.
I have a wealth of knowlege on this web site that can help me with that. She
looked at me like I was nuts but I was serious. Terry
