Rod,

It can be done, but you need to position the puller 
over a deep hole (not a money pit...which you already 
have).

Other solutions are lying under the suspended motor, 
then releasing it onto your head.

See? Solutions are all around you...just not the ones 
you really want. ;)

Hang in there...better slow progress than no progress.
