RE: [BaadAssGremlins] matador machine no reserve

Nice that he saved the car but a straight up resto would have been my
move if I was doing the car. Also it must be nice to afford to take that
kind of loss on a job like that.

Brad's intentions were never profit oriented. This
was a labor of love, no more. He saw an ultra-rare
piece of auto history (he's actually a long-time
Chevy guy), and despite knowing little about our
rides at the start, heard everyone saying that the
car was too far gone to save...and the competitive
spirit kicked in. He put his shop and employees to
work, often hand-making pieces of the unibody [not
bending stolen road signs to fix the floors, folks
...I mean english wheel, hammer and block and
artistic talent], to bring this car back...not part
of the way- ALL the way. This car got treatment that
high-dollar Porsches and Mercedes' don't get. In the
meantime, he also found and bought a 74 Matador coupe
with factory 401 and dealer-conversion 4-speed to
cruise with!

He is certain to lose money on this car, but then,
very few concours restos can sell for what it takes
to get them to that level.

Still, a Herculian effort that deserves respect.

For 'accuracy', of course, several tweaks Brad applied
would need to be undone. The scoop, the color, the
decals, the hood blackout, the missing Machine wheels,
correct PolyGlas rubber, the red seat piping...and so on.
But I don't think any of these are hurting it's value.
Conversely, if he hadn't changed a thing and gone 100%
correct, I don't think the bidding would be any higher.

In the end, in the eyes of the established collector
market, it's still a 'mere AMC'...quirky and gitchy,
but it 'ain't no SS'. Stupid but prevalant.

I wonder why there is no reserve on it? At the current bid of almost
28,000$? He has to have twice that amount in it. That is a loosing
proposition on the sellers side if  ever saw one, but the buy of a
lifetime for the buyer. That's the reason you don't make any money on a
huge resto job like that. The best buy's to possibly make a buck on is a
semi-finished project that the owner has run out of money for or lost
interest or the wife forces it to be sold as in the case of the American
pick up. "Doc"
