Welcome, you will like it here, there is a great group of people here. On the trans question what year 401 are you getting because 72 and newer only a troqueflte will fit because of the way the crank is machined. But I also have heard that there is adapters to put a torqueflite behind an earlier engine. The 70's auto in your car is a Borg Warner aluminum case, they don't even make good flower pots. Ask Eddie Stakes, he's trying to fill in the swamp behind his house with the Warners. I'd look for a parts car and get the complete power disc brake set up out of it. I drove a non powered front disc brake Concord and it was not nice. I don't know what year but mid 70's AMC changed to a better disc brake setup. I got mine out of a 79 Concord for my original Hornet which was non-power drums while my new 74 has the earlier set up. I have two 74 Hornet Hatchbacks, one I bought new and the other one I just bought 4 months ago.
