I just read your Delco conversion Eddie on your site. First of all I have power steering which leaves you marginal clearance even on a stock Motorola. The Delco's clearance problem is that the front part of the alt bracket where the bolt goes through and then through the alt itself and then into the "L" bracket bolted into the side of the block. This on a 74 is a "C" shaped bracket with the upper adjustment built into it. The fan on the Delco alt diameter is 5" 's and the one on the motorola is 4 1/2''s, hence the clearance problem with the fan. I even checked if a Delco off of a 79 Concord was smaller and would fit, it wasent. Now even with another rebuilt Motorola there is a problem with a stretched belt and you can't quite get the belt tight enough without grinding a little on the steering box for clearance. I hope this Motorola is good as the last 2 weren't. The one I installed last October lasted barely 1,000 miles before crapping out. It had an intermitting alt light when the engine was turned off. The one just removed from the car had the alt light stay on al the time with the engine turned off. Both the symptoms indicate a bad diode. I hope this Motorola is good, because if it is it is staying. Since I don't have a stereo or any big draw items in the car other than the A/C and rarely drive after dark the 35 amp Motorola should work fine. Now after this fiasco I can't wait to find out how much all this is going to cost me. "Doc"
