I am not sure on the rear bumper on the 73 Gremlin but on the Hornet there were 2 bumpes available, a non 5 mph bumper and an optional 5 mph rear bumper. But the 1973 5 mph bumper was not the massive one used in 74. Also AMC got away with non 5 mph bumpers on the 73-74 Javelin by adding rubber bumper guartd as standard equiptment. Also the only car to use a rubber filler between the front and rear bumpers was the Hornet's. It made them big bumpers look a little better and not look as ugly as they would have been without them even though them bumpers still looked like an after thought. You would have thought that since the 73 Hornet had all new front sheet metal they could have designed a nicer looking bumper to go with the new nose. "Doc"

You mean pre 74 Gremlins, the 73's were the last year for the little bumpers, and in 73 which mine is they had these shock absorbers in the front and extended brackets in the back, heres a example of the differences in the 70-72 grems and the 73's the orange grem is Donnie Solomons 'www.gremlinx.com' 72 Grem X and the black primered one is my 73,i had to drill holes to mount the 70-72 gremlin brackets go on mine to make it flush with the body like the 70-72's becuae i think that 73 gremlin bumper gap is ugly

Nice car. All the pre 73 Hornets and Gremlins looked better without that
big 5 mph front bumper.
