Another thing to consider about V8 versus 6 cyl springs is the 6 is longer and has more weight in front of the crossmember, I don't know how that affects the kind of spring the factory used. A/C is another point to consider. I am not sure how much difference there is between all the different spring options available. Then there is also the heavy duty suspension too. When I rebuilt the front end in my yellow car the first time in 1985 the stock 6 cyl sprigs were shot. I replaced them with HD V8 Sportabout A/C springs. They settled slightly and that was it. When the new cars front end gets done I will use the same ones. Rick is right about changing the springs, it is dangerous even if you know what you are doing and use the proper spring compressor. This question can bring a lot of comments. If you were to put a coil spring out of a six cylinder Gremlin next to one from a V8, you may not be able to tell a difference in the physical shape or size. Chances are you won't feel the difference either. Coil spring sizes vary according to load ratings. The difference of the weight between a six cylinder and a V8 isn't great enough to worry about. Changing the front coil springs could be hazardous so unless the springs are severely worn, I would suggest sticking with the ones you have in the car now.
