Re: [BaadAssGremlins] th400 into my 74. help????

Using a TH-400 is a good choice but there are a some of things tokeep in mind. First of all, make sure you get the shortest (there were three different lengths offered) tail shaft. This will give you the maximum length on the drive shaft.

Now take a close look at the transmission case. Do you have a place for the speedometer gear drive? The four wheel drive speedometer drive is on the transfer case and therefore doesn't have the opening youwill need.

As far as the crossmember is concerned, you will more than likely haveto either modify the one you have or will need to fabricate a new one. The first time I installed a TH-400 in a Gremlin I used an adapter plate and used one out of a GM vehicle and fabricated a rear crossmember using a piece of steel plate. A factory crossmember would work but the mounting holes on the underside of the car are not where you will need them.

One last thing. I ended up having to purchase a flexible dip stick unit from Lokar. There wasn't enough clearance for a factory tube.

Good luck.......

Rick
