Hello all, Several things about the column vs floor shifter... I believe that the Gremlin with a floor shift, auto or manual, never came with a tilt column. Why? I dunno. AFAIK only column shifts could have tilt. Floor shift Spirit's and Eagles did have tilt columns and will fit in a Gremlin. But, there is one thing to look for. The earlier models '79 and '80 I believe, still had the headlight dimmer switches on the floor, so the steering columns have a nice smooth even round finish to them. The later model columns have a large 'bump' for lack of a better term where the turn signal comes out of the column for the headlight dimmer in there. IMHO, these do not look as nice as the earlier models and are different to wire up. I put a tilt column from a '79 Spirit into my '73 Gremlin X and it was a bolt up job. No wiring changes and everything works. Painted it to match the interior color and it looks factory. Just my .02. Tom C.
