Now, bear in mind price...none of the $250+ stuff, please...an affordable one (ie < $200) that is perhaps lighter than the original would be great. Any such animals available? Or is it even necessary to replace the original? -Lu- ********************************************************************** Yes - you want a New Torque Convertor . The old one is full of grinds - shed from clutch plates and bands over years of use . These eventually flow thru the trans - acting like sandpaper - speeding up the demise of your Trans. Clean Cool Trans Fluid - and Lots Of It - are the Trick to Keeping TorqueCommands / TorqueFlite Internals healthy and long lived . Find that AC condensor & craft up a Cooler . This method is WAY better than paying $149.00 for a 'HD Trans. Cooler' somewhere . For the 4 Quart Cast Alum. Trans. Ask for or look on the delta site - for a RV Torque Convertor . for your year / engine AMC . Probably be for a Wagoneer . This will add a few hundred extra RPM over stock before the convertor fully locks - allowing the engine to spin up to a higher RPM so it will move the car with greater Torque / HP - since you are further up the Bell Curve . You don't want a 'Stall' convertor - although the RV unit can be considered a 'Stall Convertor' . You'd be spinning your engine up to 2,500 RPM in traffic before the Convertor would finally lock up - below 2,500 RPM - the Trans will 'Slip' - . RV convertors add a few Hundred RPMs to ease the Load Transition from sitting still - to moving a gread load of Motor Home or Van etc. ALSO - by adding a few extra Hundred RPM 'Stall' - your Transmission won't be 'Tugging' while you sit at stop lights with your foot on the brakes . Nice Idea- hUH ? Brien. NEW YORK
